Invisalign® at StarBrite Dental

For a very long time, the world of orthodontics relied solely on metal braces to straighten crooked teeth. Many of us remember the years-long wait until we could finally get our childhood braces off and see the wonderful new smile that was waiting for us underneath.

We also remember being reluctant to smile, having difficulty eating, dealing with tiny rubber bands and a number of other inconveniences.

Today, there’s an alternative called Invisalign. And for some 90% of people who need orthodontic treatment, it can provide excellent results without the discomfort, cumbersome maintenance and socially awkward effects of metal braces.

  • What Invisalign Does

Invisalign is a teeth-straightening technology that does its work without hiding a patient’s teeth the way traditional braces do. In fact, with Invisalign, you can smile wide without worrying about people noticing that you’re wearing an orthodontic device.

  • How Invisalign Works

Using cutting-edge 3-D imaging technology, the Invisalign process creates what might be called a “virtual timeline of your smile.” Beginning with a detailed 3D image of your teeth, a treatment plan is created, showing the various milestones Invisalign intends to achieve on the way to giving you the smile you’ve always wanted.

Invisalign achieves those milestones with a series of thin, clear, aligner trays that fit snugly over your teeth and are trimmed to your gum line for complete coverage and a uniform appearance. Made of a patented, flexible thermoplastic material called SmartTrack®, FDA-approved Invisalign aligners contain no BPA, BPS, latex or gluten.

You’ll be refitted with the next aligners in your series about every two weeks. After the last aligners are removed, your new smile will be completely in place—and you will have watched it develop every step of the way because, unlike metal braces, Invisalign doesn’t hide the progress from you.

Also, unlike metal braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing. And if you want to leave them home while you’re attending a special event, you can go without them for the occasion with no harm to your treatment.

Here’s another big plus: Our average Invisalign patients have their teeth straightened in about a year. How long did you wear your metal braces as a kid?

  • What Invisalign Costs

The cost for Invisalign treatment is usually in line with traditional braces, but does vary from patient to patient based on the extent of the treatment needed. If you need a convenient and affordable payment plan, just let us know. At StarBrite, we strive to do everything we can to help our patients afford the results they want.

“I have been going to see Dr. Seifi at StarBrite Dental for years. She has helped me through numerous dental issues, and of course I love CJ for the cleanings- the best in the world.

But my service really began to shine when I was signed up for Invisalign. Initially it was done as my front teeth were chipping and I felt like I couldn’t smile anymore.

In fact I’m in Dental Marketing and I deal with a lot of dentists daily and I had gotten so self-conscious of it that I felt I had to cover my teeth when I talked it. It wasn’t even that I was neglectful of my teeth, I was just busy.

So on a late evening my schedule had unexpectedly freed up and I was able to call in and schedule for a last minute appointment that same night to get the chipped teeth fixed. At that appointment I was told about Invisalign and how it could help avoid future chipping and also possibly help with some TMJ issues I was having. I was found to be an ideal candidate and I started that same night.

That was over 10 months ago, and now I’m at the end of my treatment and doing an adjustment for the final step. It’s going well cosmetically, and my teeth are very straight and no longer chip. I smile confidently and big!

But there was a very unexpected health benefit that happened too. I have for some time suffered from jaw/TMJ spasms, the jaw would shudder out of control for 20-60 seconds at a go. I have done Chiro adjustments, vitamins, etc. and though it has all helped, the issue has continued. This was actually a major part of why I wanted to do Invisalign. And what I got out of it was so much more than expected! The TMJ issue is gone. No more spasms, or head problems connected with my jaw. I feel great and smile great and feel I am really taking care of my oral health, as not only am I in Invisalign but I’m doing my regular hygiene appointments as well. It just made it real to me how important my teeth were, and now I’m taking care of them and feel great about it.

Another convenient thing about the service was I work long hours during the week, so having weekend and evening hours is great for me as that’s when I can do most of my appointments for Invisalign. All said, I rate StarBrite Dental and Dr. Seifi as one of the best!” -H.H.

Function & Invisalign: It's Not Just About Smiles

Another one our patients, named Shawn, had a nice-looking smile, but his teeth still gave him problems. “After I chipped my upper front right tooth,” he remembers, “I consulted with Dr. Seifi about why this had happened to me, suddenly chipping a front tooth after 32 years and from no trauma at all.”

A consultation with StarBrite’s Dr. Maryam Seifi revealed some stress fractures that pointed to chronic nail-biting (a subtle but nonetheless effective form of trauma). It also pointed out something more important: a “malocclusion” (which is an alignment issue that causes the upper and lower teeth to meet at damaging angles).

Further examination found that there was something of a box shape at the front of Shawn’s lower teeth, where they flared out on the ends; this caused stressful contact when his upper teeth connected with the lower teeth. That friction resulted in chipping at the edges of both the upper and lower teeth, stress fractures and also receding gums caused by the rough impact that occurred whenever the upper and lower teeth met.

Shawn was impressed by Dr. Seifi’s dental detective work. “It was quite a lot to learn in one consultation,” he says, “I felt like CSI Miami had just exposed the true cause of the crime in a total of 3 minutes!” After hearing his diagnosis, Shawn recalled that there had been times when he had been in situations—conversations, for instance—when, “Suddenly, out of nowhere my teeth came together funny and they felt like I had bitten on a spoon; that real weird hard nerve pain you get after biting into something metal.”

Memory also reminded Shawn about a chipped front tooth that had been repaired with bonding about a year and a half previously, only to be broken again. “The clues added up,” he recalls, “My bite was off and it was causing damage to the structure of my teeth and causing them to chip!”

Dr. Seifi recommended treatment with Invisalign Express—a 5-step version of Invisalign for patients who need only a small amount of movement in a particular area of the mouth. It would prevent future chipping, gum erosions, teeth breaking from stress, the need for crowns and veneers and other treatments. “I had never known there was so much science in dentistry—cause and effect type stuff,” Shawn told us, “I thought if something broke or something there wasn't much you could do about it. I'm glad I was wrong!"

Invisalign Treatment: A Patient's Perspective

One of the most rewarding experiences for us at StarBrite is when patients write to tell us how their treatments have helped them. Let us tell you about a patient named, Kathryn. She first started Invisalign because of teeth that were chipping due to being overcrowded by the positioning of other teeth. As Kathryn put it, “Every time I came for a cleaning, I was shown how my lower right tooth specifically was cracking more and more from the stress, and that meant I would end up needing a crown.”

In the course of her Invisalign treatment, Kathryn found that the process was doing more than just preventing teeth from chipping. “I was seeing the hygienist every 3 months for cleanings, as I had signs of gum disease developing,” Kathryn told us. “About a year into [Invisalign], our hygienist put me on regular 6 month cleanings and told me my gum pockets were now 1’s and 2’s (in regular terms – that means my gums are now perfect and healthy and I am NOT going to need any treatment for gum issues).”

Before Invisalign, Kathryn had also experienced regular migraine headaches, jaw aches from grinding her teeth and occasional tightness that made it severely painful to just open her mouth. During the course of Invisalign, those problems went away.

And what about her smile? Let’s go back to Kathryn, writing on her last day of treatment: “The results are just awesome. When the staff took my pictures today to show the before and after shots, I was amazed.”

Kathryn is just one of many patients who have told us what Invisalign has done for their appearance, their personal confidence and their overall oral and physical health.
